But because speculating on stuff without any factual basis to do so is so much fun, we decided to create our Maroon 5 Fantasy Team, if you will. I.E., what “special surprise guests” we’d like and/or expect to see with Adam Levine and the guys.
“Sugar” with Luke Bryan, Randy Houser, Thomas Rhett & Dustin Lynch
“Sugar” is a great song. You know what would make it better? Four huge country stars! And surely, Maroon 5 has seen the YouTube video of Luke Bryan inviting Randy Houser, Thomas Rhett and Dustin Lynch on stage for a rendition of that song (it featured Houser on bass, only the eighth time in his life that he’d played that instrument). We’d love to see Maroon 5 singing their recent hit with five singers. And maybe Houser will get more time to practice slappin’ the four-string.
“Signed, Sealed, Delivered” with Stevie Wonder
In 2003 when promoting the first Maroon 5 album, Adam Levine told this writer that his favorite album was by Stevie Wonder. I think it was Fulfillingness’ First Finale or Songs in the Key of Life (sorry I can’t remember which one it was: Adam, tweet at us and we’ll correct this!). And while “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” isn’t on either of those albums, it is a song that Levine performed with Wonder at Live 8. But really, any song from Wonder’s early ’70s era would do. We’d love “You Haven’t Done Nothin’,” but the NFL might not approve.
“If I Never See Your Face Again” with Rihanna
Rihanna can dip her toe in the Half Time Show waters with Maroon 5; surely she’ll be invited to headline one of these days.
“Harder to Breathe” with Lenny Kravitz
The first Maroon 5 song that most of us heard, way back in ’03. Actually, they could do this one on their own, with no help. But if we’d pick a guest, we’d go with Lenny Kravitz, who did a great job joining Left Shark’s pal Katy Perry at last year’s Half Time bonanza for her hit “I Kissed A Girl.”
“Moves Like Jagger” with Christina Aguilera and Mick Jagger
It kind of writes itself!
